Jillian Michaels: "I Don't Believe in All or Nothing"

– health.com

I’m guilty: I snooped around Jillian Michaels’ dressing room. I was left alone for a few minutes while she filmed part of her new show, Sweat Inc., and I spied something far too tempting to ignore: her stash of snacks. After all, the fitness entrepreneur, 41, is a powerhouse, and I wanted to know what fuel she’s putting in her machine. Her snacks include organic brown rice crackers; dry roasted, salted almonds; and root vegetable chips. And, boy, does Jillian need to keep her energy up. In addition to this show, which debuts on Spike TV this month, she’s shooting an E! channel docuseries, Just Jillian, that captures her life at work and at home with her partner, Heidi Rhoades, and their two kids, Lukensia, 5, and Phoenix, 3, set to air in January. She’s also busy writing a new book for mothers-to-be, Hot Mom, Healthy Baby, and has just launched a fresh-food line called Slim Soul (in select supermarkets). And that’s on top of the Impact fitness wear she created for Kmart. Jillian is still in full exercise garb because she’s just finished a workout on camera—but despite the name of her show, she isn’t breaking a sweat. “I take better care of my body now than I did at 20,” Jillian says as we walk across set to grab lunch. “I got kids. I’m like, ‘I need to be around for a while!'”RELATED: Where to Buy the Cool Clothes Jillian Michaels Is Wearing in Our October IssueBack in her dressing room, she sits cross-legged on the floor. My face is so flaky. What should I do?Blowing your nose a hundred times. Battling arctic winds. Winter conditions can irritate your skin big time and cause flakiness. “We call it ‘irritant contact dermatitis,’ and anything that aggravates skin can bring it on,” says Mona Gohara, MD, associate clinical professor of dermatology at the Yale School of Medicine. But we know them as dilated capillaries (some people say they’re “broken” capillaries, but they’re not). Exposure to cold, biting winds makes the vessels under the skin expand and become visible. You may see them on your cheeks and chin, too. The hard truth is that they won’t totally go away without a laser treatment (you’ll need three to six sessions, each $300 and up). 11 Ways to Make Your Hair Look 10 Years Younger

What is up with my hair?!If it doesn’t seem as healthy as it used to, blame it on…life. “Aging can make hair thinner, drier and less manageable,” notes dermatologist Shani Francis, MD, director of the Hair Disorders Center of Excellence in Skokie, Ill. The trick is to restore hydration, add volume and replenish shine. Here’s your total plan.Bring Back Softness”I love how dry and brittle my hair is!” said no one ever. There’s a scientific explanation for why it’s like that: “Since oil glands are mostly under hormonal control, they can become less active as your body changes over time,” says Dr. Francis. Turning up the heat on your dryer or curling iron only adds to the parching problem.TREAT ITRestore your hair’s natural lipids with a weekly fix such as Kérastase Paris Resistance Masque Therapiste ($34; amazon.com), which packs hydrating plant sap plus peptides and amino acids to strengthen abused follicles.STYLE ITCoat damp hair with a thermal protectant that hasceramides; they bind to hair and reduce breakage, found a study in the International Journal of Cosmetic Science. Try Phyto Phytokeratine Repairing Thermal Protectant Spray ($32; sephora.com). The suppler your strands, the less breakage youll see.RELATED: 6 Nutrients for Healthy HairBoost FullnessThinning often happens gradually, but for some of us, it seems to occur overnight. One day you look in the mirror and—gasp!—you can see scalp. Or you notice your ponytail isnt as full. “Hair goes through growing cycles, and at a certain age, it can slow down,” says Dr. Francis. But all is not lost: Those sluggish follicles can be awakened.TREAT ITOD’ing on products leaves behind buildup that can impede hair growth. ReGenesis Thickening Shampoo ($34; nordstrom.com) has willow bark to de-gunk and flax protein to plump strands. For significant thinning, the go-to ingredient is minoxidil. It’s the only over-the- counter drug that’s FDA-approved for stimulating hair growth in women. Find it in Women’s Rogaine Hair Regrowth Treatment ($30 for a one-month supply; ulta.com). With daily use, you can expect results in as early as 12 weeks. Also FDA-approved to spur hair growth: low-level red-light laser therapy. The HairMax LaserComb Ultima 12 ($495; neimanmarcus.com) is an investment, but it can be as effective as minoxidil, says Dr. Francis, and more so if it’s used in conjunction with the drug. Run the pronged wand over your scalp three times a week for eight minutes to see improvement in 12 weeks.STYLE ITYou guessed it—use volumizing spray. Try BloPro Blow Back Time Texture Spray ($20; blowpro.com), which infuses hair with specks of bulk-boosting powder. (No worries; its invisible.) Focus on the roots of dry hair, holding up 2-inch sections and spritzing them, says Nunzio Saviano, owner of the eponymous salon in New York City. “Brush through for more oomph.”RELATED: 10 Foods for Stronger Nails and Thicker Hair

This Is The Last Diet You'll Ever Need

– health.com

There’s a reason so many of us struggle with losing weight (and keeping it off). Cutting-edge research is pointing toward a surprising new explanation—one that has little to do with lack of willpower. (Thank goodness.) In fact, the problem is that you’ve been doing what you were told to do—slash calories, cut fat.Conventional wisdom holds that weight loss is nothing more than simple math. Take in fewer calories than you expend, and the pounds will fall off as predictably as leaves from an autumn tree. But thousands of failed diets have shown that the low-calorie approach doesn’t work, says David Ludwig, MD, an endocrinologist at Boston Children’s Hospital and a professor at Harvard Medical School. “When you cut calories, the body fights back, making you hungrier, among other things,” he explains. “Weight is controlled by our biology more than our willpower.”RELATED: 16 Ways to Lose Weight FastWhat’s more, despite everything you’ve heard for years, all calories aren’t created equal. “Although a bottle of cola and a handful of nuts may have the same number of calories, they have dramatically different effects on metabolism,” says Dr. Ludwig. (Bet you can guess which is worse.)Three new books offer insights into the latest thinking on smart eating, and they’re all penned by eminent weight-loss experts: Dr. Ludwig; Louis Aronne, MD, director of the Comprehensive Weight Control Center at Weill Cornell Medicine and NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital; and Mark Hyman, MD, director of The Cleveland Clinic Center for Functional Medicine. Health chatted with these groundbreaking diet crusaders to uncover what we all need to know to slim down and stay healthy for good.Minimize simple carbs”The ‘calorie is a calorie’ myth is perhaps the most misleading nutrition lie ever,” says Dr. Hyman. Here’s why: Sugary snacks and drinks and low-fat, highly processed starches raise blood sugar quickly, which triggers your pancreas to release a flood of insulin—the hormone Dr. Ludwig calls “the ultimate fat cell fertilizer” because it instructs your body to store calories as fat, causing fat cells to increase in number and size.Once insulin ushers calories into your fat cells, it closes the door, restricting their ability to get out. With calories, aka fuel, trapped in your fat cells, there’s too little glucose and too few lipids circulating in the bloodstream to power your brain and muscles. Your brain, sensing the fuel shortage, prompts you to feel hungry and slows down your metabolism—the worst possible combination for long-term weight control.RELATED: 26 Weight-Loss Myths You Shouldn’t Believe”Overeating hasn’t made our fat cells grow,” says Dr. Ludwig, whose book is titled Always Hungry?. “Processed carbs and added sugar have programmed our fat cells to grow, and that makes us overeat.” And it becomes a vicious cycle. Break it: “If you’re going to have simple carbs, like bread with dinner, have them after you’ve eaten some protein and veggies first,” says Dr…

Lindsey Vonn: "You Don't Have to Be a Size 2 to Be Beautiful" + MORE

Beauty and health are wonderful areas to dedicate one’s life. We have seen the simple addition of hair with Invisablend’s hair extensions and treatments cause an immediate increase in our client’s confidence and life enjoyment. We encourage you to do the little things that make you feel good and give you confidence. It will have a dynamic effect on your quality of life.

Lindsey Vonn: "You Don't Have to Be a Size 2 to Be Beautiful"

– health.com

“You guys, did you hear that somebody was murdered in the basement here?” Lindsey Vonn asks her cover shoot glam squad, who are gathered in the kitchen of California’s famous Sowden House, the rumored site of the unsolved 1947 murder of Elizabeth Short, aka the Black Dahlia.Fortunately, Lindsey—the four-time World Cup champion and Olympic gold medal-winning skier—is bringing some positive energy to the alleged crime scene. She is in a good place: Her recent ankle injury (more on that later) is fully healed, she just took a much-needed girls’ vacation, and she’s been training her butt off—with the 2018 Winter Olympics, in South Korea, firmly in sight.A competitive skier by the age of 10, Lindsey is used to growing up in the spotlight. But recently, the 31-year-old has had to endure a new level of public scrutiny, thanks to a nearly three-year romance with pro golfer Tiger Woods that ended in May 2015. While the tabloids speculate about her love life, she chooses to focus on her actual passion: The Lindsey Vonn Foundation, which she launched this year to help empower girls. Turns out, girl power is very much on her mind these days. You’ve been spending more time on the red carpet. Do you feel comfortable out there? At first it’s kind of awkward standing there while people take pictures of you; now it’s fun—although I definitely don’t fit in on the red carpet.RELATED: Check out Lindsey’s intense lower-body workoutWhat do you mean?I’m, like, twice the size of anyone, in both height and weight! I’m five-foot-ten, but I’m definitely quite a bit heavier than everyone else. I feel like the odd man out sometimes, but that’s even more reason to be confident, to show girls that you don’t have to be a size 2 to be beautiful. Any size is beautiful as long as you’re confident in yourself. You’ve worked hard at putting out that message, especially with your foundation.I’m really proud of it. I’ve always wanted to start my own foundation, but with skiing I didn’t think I had the time to do both. I don’t ever want to do something and not put all my energy into it. But when I got hurt the second time, it was honestly a blessing in disguise because it gave me the opportunity. We’ve got scholarships, camps. The main goal is to teach young girls about self-esteem and teamwork.Have you ever experienced body image issues? It’s kind of funny because before I was 17, I was incredibly skinny. I was made fun of and called “chicken” and “chicken wings”—I was super tall and probably weighed 30 pounds less than I do now. Then I gained weight because my metabolism slowed down, and I kind of was on the other end of the spectrum. I’m normal-size, but when I started to do well and do events and photo shoots, I felt like I was too big.Any advice for women reading this who might be having body image issues? The most important thing is to eat healthy. When I’m eating really clean and splurge on something really sugary, I feel like I’m gonna vomit. So eat what your body wants, and try to be as active as you can…

The Finest Art in Solving Thinning Hair

The Finest Art in Solving Thinning Hair

– invisablend.com

In the art of increasing hair volume the most important factors are maintaining the health of your scalp and existing hair.  Secondly is seamlessly feeding additional hair in-between your existing hairs and or on to your scalp.  Thirdly is adding hair in a way which you feel nothing there at all as if it’s nothing but just your own hair.  That’s pure naturalness at its best.
The problem and the known fact with each and every non-surgical method is that by adding additional hair you have to sacrifice losing some of your own existing hair within the process.  This pertains to hair replacement methods and hair extension methods also, yet millions of people take the sacrifice due to the need and love of having more hair than they present possess.
Solutions for growing hair are also very encouraging for many because it’s the most natural direction to take first, but the problem with any growing solution or programs is that at its best only a very small amount of hair grows and only to a short hair length of so.  Nevertheless any growth is better than no growth and that is why some growth solutions and or programs are worth trying.  To maximize your results any growth solution or program must maintain a dedication of consistency, without this dedication of consistence you will short change the best result possible.
Every individual receives different results; some getting no growth at all yet others achieve strengthening their existing hair at best and still others achieving a small about of growth.   For people in the beginning experiences of hair loss trying growing solutions and or programs is a common first step to try.   If you receive results that are satisfying then you must maintain consistency or any gain of hair will revert back to the original loss.
Concealers, better known as darkening powders work well for hiding the degree of thinness.  These powders must be applied daily and will drip and fade away when getting wet yet they do work for canceling  thinness.  For the health of your existing hair and scalp it’s best daily to use a clarifying shampoo for washing out darkening powders.  Clarifying shampoos are deeper cleaning shampoos that are best for removing buildup on the hair and scalp.  Although these darkening powders work they do clog the scalp from breathing properly, that’s why it best to cleans them off as often as possible and even sometimes taking a break from applying these darkening powders.
Hair transplants sometimes known also as implants are very effective and the technology today is impeccable. Hair transplants are surgical procedures of removing hair from one area of your head, known as the donor area, and transplanting the hairs to a needed area of the head.  Surgical transplants are very effective and a viable solution for begging stages of hair loss and or small areas of hair loss.  Reason being is based on the amount of donor area mathematically to be distributed to the needed thinning or balding areas…

6 Habits All Healthy Women Share

While we love a lively debate about the latest in dietary science or the hot new workout craze, the truth is that great health isn’t so complicated. It all comes down to a few simple rules. Besides exercising, eating fruits and veggies and never smoking (you already knew that, right?), here’s what the healthiest women do every day.RELATED: 21 Reasons You’ll Live Longer Than Your FriendsThey put themselves first”Many women don’t approach their own needs thoughtfully,” says David Katz, MD, president of the American College of Lifestyle Medicine and author of Disease Proof. “They just give themselves whatever is left over”—like eating scraps off your kid’s plate rather than making your own dinner, or sacrificing sleep to squeeze in an extra work report. But time for yourself should be the last thing to come off your schedule. They’re not afraid of fatWe now know that the type of fat you consume is more important than the amount. For one, low-fat diets don’t seem to be any more effective than higher-fat diets at helping people lose weight. And when it comes to heart health, replacing saturated fats with refined carbs doesn’t do you any favors—but replacing them with unsaturated fats can reduce heart disease risk by up to 25 percent, says a recent study from the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health. Aim to get most of your fat from foods rich in mono- and polyunsaturated fats (such as avocados, nuts, seeds and fatty fish), says Marjorie Nolan Cohn, RDN, spokesperson for the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics.RELATED: Best Superfoods for Weight LossThey don’t drink their caloriesOther than water, the only drinks worth a pour are coffee (mind the cream and sugar) and tea, along with the occasional alcoholic drink (no more than one per day), if you so desire. Even juices should be seen as a treat. That’s because juicing removes most of the fruit’s healthy fiber while preserving the sugar. They use a shot of sunscreenAs in 1 ounce, enough to fill a shot glass, spread out over every exposed inch of the body. Don’t forget places like your ears (the third most common spot for basal cell carcinoma, a type of skin cancer), neck, the back of your hands and—during sandal season—your toes, plus SPF lip balm.RELATED: 22 Strange Ways the Sun May Affect Your BodyThey don’t fight stress with screensBy the end of a long, harried day, the path of least resistance is often paved with wine, Häagen-Dazs and endless mind-dulling games of Candy Crush. But these types of activities offer only instant gratification—a little hit of dopamine in the brain’s reward center. “Do something instead that fosters a genuine positive emotion; that’s what induces feelings of calm and safety and puts the brakes on your body’s stress response,” says sociologist Christine Carter, PhD, senior fellow at UC Berkeley’s Greater Good Science Center and author of The Sweet Spot. One of the best ways to tap into good vibes: Connect with others in person, not just via Instagram and Facebook likes…

11 Ways to Make Your Hair Look 10 Years Younger

– health.com

InvisaBlend Concept

InvisaBlend Concept

– invisablend.com

The concept of InvisaBlend was developed to fulfill three voids in the world of increasing hair volume and hair length.  Health as always comes first, and this was an extremely important missing part, meaning all hair extensions causes additional hair loss, every hair replacement system removes hair to add hair, wigs and weave and all other methods of adding additional hair ALL also cause additional hair loss. This is a very discouraging tradeoff of self-improving.  InvisaBlend broke through this barrier and invented the first and only healthy approach to fuller and or longer hair.  A revolutionary concept that will soon make all these other options obsolete!
Secondly, all of these methods mentioned above have restrictions due to having some degree of bulk when the hair is added. You move you hair around and you see where the hair is added.  This causes restriction in a person’s daily living.  But due to InvisaBlend’s breakthrough invention, the Translucent Blending-Strand, hair can be added ONE real hair at a time onto a filament as fine and soft as one hair.  The results – the look and feel of NOTHING but your own hair and scalp.  No matter what you do with your hair you see and feel noting but your own hair and scalp.
Thirdly, every method of adding additional hair is for specific hair needs.  One example – hair extensions create fullness along the bottom but cannot fill-in the top area.  Conversely InvisaBlend is the first and only Cure-all, meaning InvisaBlend can provide the results you desire on any hair types and any hair condition that exist on earth.
Therefore InvisaBlend is the breakthrough creation that can achieve any results you desire on any hair condition, and in a purely natural way that adds more hair volume or length the same way hair naturally grows out of the scalp. Purely natural no matter what you do.

Healthy Foods for your hair

Salmon for Shine – Fish like salmon, sardines, and mackerel are packed with healthy omega-3 fatty acids. Your body can’t make these healthy fats, so you have to get them from food or supplements. They help protect you from disease, but your body also needs them to grow hair and keep it shiny.
Eggs are rich in biotin, a B vitamin essential for hair growth and overall scalp health.
Pork tenderloin is rich in B vitamins — folate, B6, and B12. These vitamins are involved in the creation of red blood cells, which carry oxygen and nutrients to all body cells, including those of the scalp, follicles, and growing hair.
Lentils – are a great vegetarian source of iron-rich protein, which I recommend for two reasons. First, protein is necessary for all cell growth, including hair cells. Hair gets its structure from hardened proteins called keratin. Without enough protein for keratin, hair grows more slowly, and the individual strands that do grow are weaker.
Tofu, soybeans, starchy beans, and black-eyed peas – These play the same role as Lentils for hair health.
Red, yellow, and green bell peppers – these are a colorful, delicious source of vitamin C, which is necessary for hair health for many reasons.
Sweet Potatoes – This has Beta-carotene of which is converted to vitamin A in the body, and vitamin A is necessary for all cell growth, including hair.
Oysters – The mineral zinc is involved in tissue growth and repair — and that includes hair growth.
