Does Dry Brushing Really Reduce Cellulite and Help You Look Younger?[brightcove:5474328532001 default]

There's always a new skin trend popping up rumored to vanish wrinkles, smooth dimples and zap cellulite. But most turn out to be temporary tricks and, more often than not, too good to be true. Cue dry brushing—is it really worth the hype?

Dry brushing, as the term suggests, quite literally entails brushing your bare skin—thighs, butt, arms, you name it—with a soft-bristled brush in order to give skin a fresher, smoother appearance. While there is scant scientific research to back up claims that it cures cellulite, it has some cosmetic benefits, explains Mona Gohara, MD, a dermatologist at the Yale School of Medicine—although they are fleeting at best.

The motion improves circulation and helps flush waste and toxins by stimulating the lymphatic system, explains Dr. Gohara, who is also a fellow of American Academy of Dermatology. "Doing all of that can certainly parlay into skin radiance and glow and a plumper appearance."

Another power of dry brushing is the element of exfoliation, she adds. While exfoliating "won't shave off 20 years," Dr. Gohara says, it helps remove dry, dead skin cells and makes your derm more susceptible to moisture and hydration. "Exfoliation really is a tenant of healthy, younger-looking skin."

How to dry brush properly

Using a brush made with natural, ultra-fine bristles, run the brush over your bare skin in gentle, circular motions. It's best to do it before you shower; both your skin and the brush should be dry. "I generally recommend doing it once a week, one pass per body part," Dr. Gohara adds.

The brush makes all the difference; stiff or synthetic bristles can cause irritation or even microscopic cuts. "You should use a brush that would be safe even on a baby's skin," Dr. Gohara recommends.

You should avoid dry brushing if you have very sensitive skin, acne, or a condition like rosacea or eczema. "There's a good chance any type of sensitive skin will react to this type of stimulation," she says.

You may notice plump, fresh skin for a couple of hours. "Think about it," Dr. Gohara explains, "when we go for a jog, our hearts are pumping blood to our organs, our face gets flushed, and then it fades away. Or imagine what happens when you pinch your cheeks."

The bottom line: Dry brushing can act as a short-lived fix to energize your skin. But is it a permanent anti-aging solution for all lumps and bumps? "Absolutely not," she says. "All of us would be scrubbing ourselves with brushes constantly, every day."

This $9 Brush Takes the Pain Out of Detangling Wet Hair

– health.com

What is worse than getting out of the shower and having to spend 10 minutes painfully yanking through the snarly bird's nest on your head? Nothing. The answer is nothing. (OK, some things, but practically nothing.) I have long, thick, hard-to-manage locks, so this is a particularly sensitive topic for me. But I've found the fix: the Wet Brush.

Actually, my best friend found it. While visiting me last weekend, she got all excited and skipped over to her suitcase because she had "a surprise you're going to love!" She then unveiled the most underwhelming pink, plastic hair brush I've ever seen. I was too quick to judge its basic appearance because this thing lived up to its name. The detangling brush could comb through my knotted post-shower strands very quickly and without tugging on my scalp, leaving my hair silky smooth. It also worked just as well working through my dry bed-head hair the next morning. The power lies in the thin, "IntelliFlex" bristles that can bend and wiggle through tangles without tugging or causing damage.

[brightcove:4821494210001 default]

I bought my own immediately (it's only $9 on amazon.com), and I now notice an obvious difference when I happen to pick up my icky, evil old brush. Another hack? Use it in the shower with conditioner for an even silkier mane when you blow dry. Moms out there, this beauty steal could be a lifesaver for anyone who struggles combing their child's hair sans tears.

The Wet Brush comes in a few different shapes and sizes, including a full-size paddle option ($10; amazon.com), as well as a Wet Brush "Squirt" ($7; amazon.com) that is adorable and mini and perfect for your purse or gym bag. You're welcome!

Chrissy Teigen Loves This LED Acne Mask—Here’s a $30 Dupe You Can Use at Home

– health.com

Leave it to Chrissy Teigen to share yet another super relatable moment on Instagram. One of the many reasons why this outspoken A-list momma is a social media queen (hey, 20 million-plus Instagram followers and counting) is that she isn't afraid to give us a glimpse into what's really happening behind the scenes of her glamorous life. Hilarious beauty treatments included.

Teigen most recently shared her mid-week spa day with the Internet. She first snapped a photo with a decadent cream lathered over her face, and then shared another image of an intense (and slightly terrifying) device being circled over her face and neck to "tighten" her skin by a professional.

In the final snap, we saw Teigen chilling out in the luxurious Deesse Pro LED mask from celebrity facialist Shani Darden, which we're seriously coveting. We'll admit: We're a little envious of Teigen's pampering session as we sit at our office desks trying to work (is it Friday yet?). We also appreciate the mid-week laugh while watching Teigen try to drink from a straw as she wears the Halloween-like mask. She. Keeps. Missing. Her. Mouth. LOL.

But while Teigen's mask looks really cool, are LED masks actually beneficial to your skin? And, most importantly, are they safe to use?

Absolutely, experts say. LED (light emitting diodes) are essentially just infrared lights that are found in different wavelengths depending on the color, says New York-based dermatologist Rachel Nazarian, MD. These lights help to clear skin and also offer anti-aging benefits, she tells us. "LED lights don't cause burns or skin damage, which makes them great for every skin type and color," Dr. Nazarian adds. However, she does recommend that clients wear eye protection during a professional treatment.

We may not be able to afford Teigen's LED mask, but there are at-home options that work well, too. "[These masks] stimulate collagen production certainly more slowly than a laser done in a doctor's office, but they are safe and effective," says Debra Jaliman, MD, a New York City-based dermatologist and author of Skin Rules ($16; amazon.com). She tells us that she's a big fan of these types of masks herself.

To buy: Neutrogena Light Therapy Acne Treatment Face Mask (on sale for $30; amazon.com)

Curious as to what all the fuss is about, but don't want to drop a lot of money? This $30 dupe from Neutrogena won't break the bank and is dermatologist-approved. Dr. Jaliman has tried it and confirms it's incredibly easy to use, quick, and totally painless. The box contains one Light Therapy Acne Face Mask, which helps clear breakouts and allows your skin to heal with the help of blue and red lights that target acne-causing bacteria and reduce inflammation…

The Internet Is Obsessed With This Intense Charcoal Face Mask, But Is It Safe?

– health.com

[brightcove:5464640285001 default]

The Shills Acne Purifying Peel-Off Black Mask ($11; amazon.com) is the internet's latest beauty obsession. On YouTube and Instagram, you'll find plenty of videos documenting the super-intense masking process. Unlike other masks that simply wash or peel off without much fuss, this charcoal-based peel seriously clings to the skin—and ripping it off hurts like crazy. It's weirdly mesmerizing to watch people pull the masks off and reveal the blackheads, dead skin, and other gunk hiding in their pores.

This video might be the funniest. It was posted on YouTube last week by YouTuber Tiff from Tee Cee Videos, and then made it to Facebook via Viral Thread. The Facebook video has already amassed 76 million views. (Warning: NSFW for swearing.)

In the clip, Tiff slowly peels off the the mask one painful millimeter at a time. "Oh God, it's rough. It's so rough," she screeches repeatedly throughout the peeling process, tears streaming down her face and her friend laughing hysterically in the background.

If videos like Tiff's are any indication, then this mask really does unclog pores. But considering all the pain and suffering involved, is it worth the hassle? And even more importantly, is it even safe? We reached out to two dermatologists to get their expert opinions on charcoal face masks like this one.

The good news: They’re safe. The bad news: using one is probably going to hurt. A lot. And it might irritate your skin, too.

“The mask 'sticks' to not just the blackheads, but also the skin and hair on the face,” says Melissa Piliang, MD, a dermatologist at the Cleveland Clinic. “When the mask is removed, it pulls off the outermost layer of skin and associated oils which serve as a barrier to protect the skin from the environment. This, plus pulling out the small hairs would cause significant pain—just like waxing the face.”

There are a few ways to make the peel-off process less painful. Washing your face beforehand helps to pre-exfoliate the skin, and removing hair also makes the mask removal more manageable, says Debra Jaliman, MD, a dermatologist in New York City. Both Dr. Jaliman and Dr. Piliang suggested applying the mask to only your T-zone or areas that have blackheads. The oilier skin in the center of the face may have a bit more protection from irritation, says Dr. Piliang. Dr. Jaliman advises not putting it on your entire face, especially if you have combination skin, which could be even more irritated by it.

You can expect the masks to help unclog pores and absorb environmental pollutants, oil, and dirt from the skin. Charcoal is especially good for people with acne and blackheads as it can help reduce excess oil, says Dr. Jaliman.

Still, Dr. Piliang warns that these masks, like any beauty product, can contain chemicals that can cause allergies or irritation. So be diligent about checking for ingredients that don’t work well with your skin, and be wary of buying through third-party websites, like Facebook, she says…

The $20 Anti-Aging Product Amazon Reviewers Swear By

– health.com

It's normal for frown lines to get deeper and more prominent as you age. Whether they pop up between your eyebrows, above your forehead, or around your eyes, these lines are usually a combined result of genetics, loss of collagen, and repeated facial expressions, New York City-based dermatologist Debra Jaliman, MD, told Health in a previous interview.

Of course, injectable fillers at your doctor's office can provide instant results, and topical creams can gradually soften the appearance of wrinkles over time. (We're partial to retinol serums such as Neutrogena Rapid Wrinkle Repair Serum and Roc Retinol Correxion Deep Wrinkle Night Cream.) But a simple, non-invasive tool could make a big difference, too—and it has the stamp of approval from thousands of online reviewers.

Presenting: Frownies.

To buy: $20-$22; amazon.com, anthropologie.com, dermstore.com, and walgreens.com

These vegetable-based adhesive patches are designed to be placed on top of your forehead where you have frown lines, gently pulling skin taut. With continued use, they help train your facial muscles not to make expressions that were contributing to fine lines, gradually softening their appearance.

"I'm 52 with fair skin and a serious-looking forehead… Oh, how I wish I had started using these ten years ago!" writes one reviewer. "After using them 3-4 times a week for a month, my frown line is about 75% gone."

Another reviewer raves about their fast results. "After only three nights of wearing the Frownies patch, the lines are smoothed, and only visible with the right lighting," she says. "HOW IS THIS POSSIBLE?"

RELATED: The Best Anti-Aging Products for Sensitive Skin

Also good: Both fine lines and deeper wrinkles can benefit from the patches, reviewers say. "I am 30 and had pretty deep frown lines," writes yet another. "I started wearing these overnight between my eyes, and poof they are gone in the morning. I guess I was frowning in my sleep without knowing it? Whatever the reason, it looks like I got Botox."

Even better, this is one anti-aging solution that's seriously affordable. A $20 box of the original Frownies Forehead & Between Eyes patches contains 144 patches that are recommended to be worn for at least three hours at a time, so one box could last you for a few months if you wear them nightly.

Have lines in a different area of your face? The brand also sells patches for the corners of your eyes and mouth and specifically for lip lines.

9 Fall Hair Color Trends for Brunettes That You Need to Try ASAP

Let’s be real, we know blondes don’t actually have more fun, especially during fall, which is when dark manes really shine. There are countless ways to add dimension to a traditional brunette ‘do, and the change in season is the perfect excuse to transform your tresses. From copper highlights to flannel hair, we’ve gathered nine fall color trends for brunettes you’re going to be seeing everywhere this season.

Before you head to the salon, it's important you know how to care for newly dyed hair. Regular shampoo can cause colored hair to fade quickly, so pick up a shampoo that's formulated to retain color, like R+Co Gemstone ($24, amazon.com) or Oribe Shampoo for Beautiful Color ($46, amazon.com).

Splash of balayage

If it’s your first time giving color a go, adding a splash of blonde to the bottom of your mane (rather than the entire length or your locks) is a great way to start out slow. This dipped-ends look by @hellobalayage will let you keep the majority of your head true to your natural shade.

Warmed-up brunette

Leaving blonde highlights behind and choosing subtle reds, oranges, and pinks as seen in this ‘do by @sarahzstylz will help your hair stand out this season. If you’re feeling daring, add lowlights to create contrast that make the colors pop.

Caramel highlights

We get it, you usually keep your tresses au naturel. But every now and then you crave a soft way to spice up your usual look. You can’t go wrong with caramel highlights like the ones @laurenlewiss_  is rocking. That mane is OMG-worthy.

Rose gold balayage

As you probably know, rose gold locks have seriously taken off this season, and this style by @camouflageandbalayage lets you incorporate the color into your look without dying your entire mane.

Brunette blonde contrast

So you’re a deep brunette at heart but also have a soft spot for a touch of blonde. This style by @ambermcmahen shows how fierce the two colors can look together.

Fiery highlights

You’d be lying if you said you haven’t wondered what life as a redhead would be like. This look by @catherinelovescolor lets you stop daydreaming. That’s right, you can keep your brunette base while also adding some fiery hues.

Flannel hair

Flannels are a fall fashion staple, and this year their traditional combo of red, copper, and cider hues is a salon favorite. Add your own touch by getting creative with auburn, cinnamon, or a similar color, as this style by @anthonycuts demonstrates.

Blonde framing

Creating a golden frame around your face is a stylish way to give your brunette locks some serious dimension. The genius behind the look, @camouflageandbalayage, playfully calls this one honey nut cheerios.

Cobalt blue

Sure, neon pink or purple hair might not cut it at your desk job, but that doesn’t mean you should totally give up on the idea of color…

9 Fall Hair Color Trends for Blondes You’ll Be Seeing Everywhere

When fall arrives, we tend to replace our summer sun-kissed hair color and go with darker hues. But just because the sun isn’t shining as bright these days doesn’t mean your hair shouldn’t. Instead of letting your tresses lose their glow, find new ways to rock your golden locks this fall.

Before you go crazy with color, it’s important to know how to take care of dyed hair. Since some shampoos can cause your look to fade within a matter of weeks, opt for one that's formulated to retain vibrant color, like R+Co Gemstone ($24, amazon.com) or Oribe Shampoo for Beautiful Color ($46, amazon.com).

You might also want to invest in something to give your hair extra shine, like Evo Fabuloso Color Intensifying Conditioner ($20, amazon.com). Once you have the products you need to make your color last, you’re ready to let your hairdresser work her magic. Below, we’ve gathered nine fall hair color trends for blondes that are huge this season.

RELATED: 7 Products That Will Keep Color-Treated Hair Looking Vibrant

Blonde balayage ombre

We get it, you want to change things up as winter draws near, yet you don’t want to go all the way over to the dark side. A balayage ombre combo like this one by @hellobalayage will keep your warmth while incorporating shadowy tones up top.

Dirty blonde

If you want your locks to look effortlessly on point, this messy style by @sarahzstylz is for you. Not to mention you won’t have to worry about your roots growing out.

Orange to blonde ombre

What better way to celebrate the season than by adding burnt orange flair to your hair, like this look by @kristinamaccaro? Ombre allows you to hold onto your beloved blonde on the bottom half of your mane and create a head-turning fiery effect.

Platinum blonde with brunette undertones

Going completely platinum can be intimidating, but with a ‘do like this one by @catherinelovescolor, the chocolate undertones add contrast to make it less full on.

Blonde with red undertones

What do you do when you want to get festive, but you’re not down for an entire head of pumpkin orange hair? Two words: maroon undertones. This style by @soulsnap has seriously taken off this season, and it’s not too late to get in on the trend.

Platinum blonde

Okay, you’ve been thinking about it for long enough, and it’s finally time surrender to the trend and transform into the rock star you know you are with a full head of platinum. We can all agree this pearly look by @nicoletta_marie is #goals.

Rose gold

All of the jewelry you own is already rose gold, so why not give yourself a crown to match? This rosy style by @ambermcmahen is exactly what you need to switch things up this season without going dark.

Pastel highlights

Add some color to your life with pastel highlights like these by @kortniwebbhair. Let’s be honest, us unicorn lovers can’t resist an opportunity to get in touch with our magical side…

9 Signs It's Time to Break Up With Your Gym

– health.com

Breaking up with your pedicurist, tailor, and electrician? Easy. Breaking up with a best friend, boyfriend, or girlfriend? Way less easy.

But another tie that can be hard to cut—and hard to know when to cut? Your ties to your gym.

Between fitness plateaus, lack of cleanliness, and a way-too-long commute, there are tons of signs it's time to dump your gym—whether it’s a boutique studio or big box fitness facility. Below, nine reasons to join a different gym, according to experts.

RELATED: 10 Mistakes That Will Make Everyone Hate You at the Gym

The broken equipment isn't getting fixed

If you lived in an apartment with broken appliances that the landlord never got around to fixing, chances are you’d either take legal action or find a new place to live when your lease was up. Similarly, when equipment breaks, a well-run gym will take the necessary measures to get it fixed—and quickly, especially in the age of overnight shipping and TaskRabbit. If it’s taking weeks for broken equipment to get fixed, it’s reflective of a gym that either doesn’t have the funds or is apathetic about the conditions of the space. Either way, it’s a sign your gym deserves dumping.

It takes you longer than 30 minutes to get there

How often have you wished that there were more than 24 hours in a day? Exactly. Rhetorical question. Spending a long time commuting to the gym is an automatic reason to switch up your sweat session. For some people—depending on where you live—even 20 to 30 minutes may be too far. In cities, for example, it’s wise to pick a gym that’s within 15 minutes walking or subway distance. More than that, and it’ll be easy to find an excuse when it’s cold, dark, or late. If the gym is close, you’ll have one less excuse for subbing the barbell (or bootcamp) for Buffy reruns.

The fitness classes offered just aren't doing it for you

Maybe when you joined the gym you liked the class schedule and instructors. But somewhere along the way your fave instructor found a new job and the Pilates class you like was swapped with Zumba or a HIIT class you can’t get into (so. many. burpees!). Use this as an opportunity to scope out other gyms' class offerings. While you’re there, pay attention to the type and timing of the classes to know if they'll make things more exciting for you.

RELATED: 9 Thoughts Everyone Has the First Time They Try a Fitness Class

You're overpaying

A recent survey from supplement and fitness company Myprotein found that Americans spend an average of around $34,000 on gym memberships, personal trainers, or workout plans over their lifetimes. “One sign that should make you consider breaking up with your gym is when you start to balance your checkbook in order to afford it,” says iFit trainer Becca Capell. While the financial tipping point will be different for everyone, there are a number of affordable alternatives that fitness enthusiasts can use for the sake of their bank accounts…

This Mascara Is So Good, A Tube Is Sold Every 7.4 Seconds

– health.com

When it comes to mascaras, there is no gray area. They're either clumpy and smudgy, or life-changing, everyone-asks-if-you have-lash-extensions-good. Too Faced's Better Than Sex Mascara falls into the latter category — the five-year-old product is currently the best-selling prestige mascara in the country. In fact, according to the brand, a tube of it sells every 7.4 seconds.

"I wanted to create a holy grail mascara for every woman out there who’s been searching for the perfect mascara that delivers volume, separation, length, curl, and rich, fluffy, black lashes," says Jerrod Blandino, co-founder and chief creative officer of Too Faced. "Before Better Than Sex, you could get a couple of those things in a mascara, but never all of those things in one tube. I gave myself the freedom to experiment, play and dream without time limits, launch dates, or the pressure of needing it to happen."

RELATED: Why People Are Obsessed With This Cult-Classic Dry Texturizing Spray

Considering it took three years and over 100 variations before landing on the formula everyone knows and loves, it's a good thing that Blandino wasn't tied to a launch date. "The science of a mascara is the most difficult thing to do within the color cosmetics industry," he explains. "There are so many variables that will make or break it, from ingredients, waxes, the temperature of the water going into the batch, time of year and weather, the brush, the bottle, the glue that holds everything together, the metal, the plastics, essentially every component that makes it what it is."

According to Blandino, the fact that Too Faced went outside of the typical mascara ingredients to find things that take it to the next level, is what makes Better Than Sex so wonderful, and a product that can't be replicated. Well, and the fact that it's name would make your grandma clutch her pearls. Incidentally, the origins of the mascara's X-rated name is ironically G-rated.

"We had been playing and testing for so long and we had finally found a formula that we were all loving, but hadn’t unlocked it with the right brush," says Blandino. "The UPS man came in and dropped off a box full of brushes. My team and I rolled our eyes thinking, 'ok, another trial and error is about to happen.' We chose a couple brushes, nothing great happened, and then we plucked THE ONE out of the box, dipped it in the tube, swirled it around, and when my product development manager applied it, everybody’s jaws dropped, gasps were heard, and I screamed, 'Oh shit! It’s better than sex!'

Whether or not the mascara is hyperbolic is up for you to decide. Too Faced's Better Than Sex Mascara is available for $24 at sephora.com.

Nothing throws off your flow like teetering or even falling as you’re trying to hold your balance during yoga class. But there could be a reason you can’t seem to get your body weight to stay centered. Yoga instructor Kirby Koo says it’s not uncommon for students to need some guidance when they’re trying a new balance-focused pose, which is exactly what she’s going to give you in this video. Here’s how to fix three balances you get could be doing wrong:

As you stand on one leg and extend the other high behind you, reach your arm over your shoulder and hold your foot in your hand. Keep your knee bent at a 90 degree angle behind you, and make sure your hips are square to the floor. Lift the arm that isn’t holding your foot so that it’s above your head and angled forward.

Shoulder stand

While extending your legs in the air, make sure your elbows are angled in toward your body and not poking out to the sides. Let your weight fall into your hands while they’re placed on your lower back, and keep your legs straight.

The One Healthy Thing Fitness Experts Always Do on Thanksgiving Day

– health.com

[brightcove:5159339518001 default]

Who doesn't love Thanksgiving—one of the few days of the year when you can put aside your usual healthy habits and pig out with no shame or judgment?

While we're totally on board with holiday indulgence, it's not a bad idea to try to do at least one food- or fitness-related move to keep your energy high, your mood bright, and successfully resist the urge to veg out on the couch after dinner nursing a monster food baby. To give you some inspiration, we asked fitness influencers, nutritionists, and Health staffers to tell us one thing they always do for mind-body health on Turkey Day.

“I get out on the road early for a run before the festivities begin. I know later I most likely won’t have the time or energy. Running is also my 'me' time; on a day of giving thanks, it’s important to thank yourself for all you do! Having the ability to move, breathe, and share life with others makes me feel even more grateful. The crisp fall air and smell of fallen leaves doesn’t hurt in setting the mood either.”

—Rebecca Kennedy, New York based–fitness trainer

“I love taking recipes from Pinterest that look super yummy and find ways to make them healthier with organic and natural ingredients. It's fun because it's something the whole family can be part of. We're all cooking and being creative, and healthy!”

—Cassey Ho, fitness influencer and founder of Blogilates

“I always try to maintain a physical yoga practice during the holidays, even if it mean unrolling my mat in the one sliver of space that’s not occupied by a family member. It always helps me stay centered during what can be a very emotionally difficult time of the year and it helps validate my requisite gluttonous holiday meal choices. Plus, yogic twists make digestion of rich holiday food much easier.”

—Jessamyn Stanley, yogi and author of Every Body Yoga

“On Thanksgiving I pay close attention to my mind-body connection. It doesn't feel good to deprive myself, and it doesn't feel good to be stuffed and sluggish, so I make choices that allow me to feel both satisfied and energized simultaneously. This balance feels just right, both mentally and physically, and it's freeing to make choices motivated by feeling well, rather than numbers, rules, shoulds, or guilt!"

—Cynthia Sass, RD, Health contributing nutrition editor

“I just make sure to get a run in, walk before and after eating, and then also pace myself between the main course and dessert. I'm never one to wildly indulge and I think if you give yourself a bit of a break between the main course and dessert it allows you some time to spend with your family, in addition to being actually able to savor the deliciousness of the sweets…

This Is the Easiest Way to Get an Anti-Aging Prescription

– health.com

When it comes to anti-aging, there’s no greater tool than retinoids. We’re not exaggerating when we say they are the gold standard in preventing and reversing signs of aging. From plumping fine lines and fading hyperpigmentation, to increasing skin elasticity, there’s seemingly no aging issue they can’t improve. So why aren’t we all using retinoids?

Retinoids—unlike retinol, a gentler version that’s found in hundreds of over-the-counter products—are a controlled class of ingredients, meaning they are not available without a dermatologist prescription.

On the one hand, requiring a prescription is for our own safety. Retinoids are powerful tools, so improper use can lead to damaged skin, with the exact opposite side effects of intended use. But, for a huge variety of reasons, it’s not always simple to get a prescription. Maybe you live in an area with low access to dermatologists, maybe your insurance doesn’t cover them, or maybe it’s hard to make time to pick up your script at a far flung pharmacy.

RELATED: 3 Skincare Products You Should Never Use With Retinoids

It doesn’t have to be like that. Curology, a startup rethinking prescription treatments, has combined all of our favorite things about skin care—high-potency ingredients, expert formulations, a customizable experience, and the ease and delight of a subscription box.

Not quite just a product, Curology is a service. User’s can connect with Curology through its website by uploading selfies to their account, highlighting skin issues they’d like to tackle. Actual dermatologists then review and recommend custom ingredient blends, which are packaged into Superbottles, and mailed directly to the customer’s home.

Among the ingredients dermatologists can choose to include in your Superbottle are tretinoin (a type of retinoid also known as Retin A), Clindamycin (a prescription antibiotic that works wonder on acne-prone skin), and Azelaic Acid (another prescription miracle worker for skin cell turnover.) There wide range of highly effective ingredients mean they can recommend solutions not just for anti-aging, but for acne, rosacea, hyperpigmentation and more.

Today, Curology just announced two new products to even further streamline your path to great skin. Introducing: your friendliest cleanser and moisturizer yet. Now, Curology members can choose to add these new additions to their monthly or bimonthly deliveries, and be sure they’ll never have to deliberate using hand soap when their cleanser runs out.

If you’re new to the service, you can start out with your very own three-piece trial kit, which includes a totally custom Superbottle, plus the cleanser and moisturizer, for just the cost of shipping ($5; curology.com). Once you’re hooked (and when you start seeing results, you will be), a subscription will run you between $20-$60/mo, depending on your scheduling and product selections…

7 Genius Ways to Prevent Wrinkles While You Sleep

– health.com

You've said it before: "I need my beauty sleep!" as you crawl under the covers for a well-deserved full night of rest. But while you might be saying it facetiously, there are ways to slow down signs of aging overnight. But first: doesn't sleeping cause wrinkles?

Yes, it can. According to Debra Jaliman, MD, a New York City-based dermatologist and author of Skin Rules ($13; amazon.com), sleeping in such a way that your face comes into contact with cotton pillowcases like on your side or stomach can lead to the creation of deep sleep lines on your forehead and cheeks.

Wrinkles are caused by the loss of collagen and elasticity, which reduces skin volume. But applying repeated pressure (such as sleeping with the side of your face on a pillow) or muscle motions (such as laughing and squinting) against the collagen will promote its breakdown, eventually leading to visible lines.

Here are the eight ways that you can prevent wrinkles while you rest.

Sleep on your back

Sleeping on your stomach or on of your sides means there is constant pressure on your face. Over time, this action will produce unwanted sleep lines. You can remedy this by sleeping on your back, says Dr. Jaliman, this way you will not apply any pressure to your face. For many people though, this might be uncomfortable, and you can't control your involuntary sleep movement leading you to a side or stomach position. But, you can practice and can get used to it over time.

Not a back-sleeper? Get a special pillow

Dr. Jaliman recommends the NIGHT Pillow ($150; amazon.com) for sleep. "It has many benefits including minimizing wrinkles, supporting clean skin, and assisting with hydrating your skin cells, which helps prevent the formation of fine lines," she says.

If you do want to promote sleeping on your back, try the Nurse Jamie Beauty Bear Age Delay Pillow ($69; dermstore.com), which is a contoured pillow designed to reduce facial contact with the pillow surface, reducing sleep lines.

There's also a lower-tech option for those who want to become back sleepers. You know those pillows they sell in airports so you can sleep comfortably on long flights? You can use them in bed, too. They make it easier to sleep on your back without eventually rolling onto your side. Try the Nap uPillow ($20; amazon.com), which uses silky-soft fabric for soothing support.

Upgrade your pillowcase

If you just can't get comfortable sleeping on your back, you can still prevent those pillowcase-induced wrinkles by upgrading from cotton to silk or satin. "With a silk pillowcase, your skin slides on the pillow," says Dr. Jaliman. In other words, there is less traction and your face won't "crunch" against it like it does on a cotton pillow. Try the Spasilk Facial Beauty Pillowcase ($20; amazon…

Jennifer Lopez Shows Off Incredible Biceps as She Says She's 'Feeling Like Superwoman'

– health.com

Jennifer Lopez doesn’t need a cape to look and feel like a superhero.

On Wednesday, the “El Anillo” singer, 49, showed off her buff biceps in a clingy maroon dress and silver hoop earrings on Instagram. With her hair swept back, Lopez flexed her incredible arms as she looked confidently at the camera over her shoulder.

“Feeling like superwoman after the show tonight!” Lopez wrote.

In the caption, Lopez reflected on her jam-packed residency at Planet Hollywood in Las Vegas, which comes to a close on Sept. 29.

“When I started this run I thought omg 15 shows in 27 days that’s a lot,” Lopez explained. “But I made a promise to myself that instead of letting it wear me down I would be even stronger at the end of it…I will work out and be in the best shape of my life…”

RELATED: Jennifer Lopez Is Missing Boyfriend Alex Rodriguez After Having Spent Just ‘One Day Apart’

She continued, “There were moments I was tired and there was travel and I had to fit in my workouts where I could… but here we are with only 3 shows left!! And I am having so many emotions but mostly just feeling strong, happy and grateful!!!”

Lopez tacked on the hashtags “#allihavefinal15,” “#3showstogo,” “#we’renotdoneyet,” “#letsgoooo” and “#makepromisestoyourselfandkeepthem.”

One way that Lopez stays refreshed for her performances is her pre-show ritual.

Before Lopez’s show earlier this month, her boyfriend Alex Rodriguez filmed Lopez grooving in front of a mirror while Cardi B‘s verse on their song “Dinero” played in the background.

“She does this before every show. Seriously,” Rodriguez quipped in the caption.

But it’s not all fun and games: Lopez revealed to Entertainment Tonight in August that she once suffered a dental disaster onstage.

“I’ve chipped my tooth on stage and had to finish the show,” Lopez said. “Like, literally knocked my tooth out and I’m like, ‘Oh!’”

People backstage motivated her to finish strong. “I went back thinking, ‘Can I finish the show like this?’ They’re like, ‘Yeah, yeah, it’s fine, it’s just a little chip,” she recalled.

6 Dermatologists Reveal Their Winter Skincare Routines

– health.com

Let’s be honest, cold weather doesn’t do your skin any favors. All of a sudden, your hands feel like sandpaper and you may find yourself wondering, Since when is eyebrow dandruff even a thing? Believe it or not, dermatologists have the same winter skin problems, and they have to deal with them just like the rest of us.

When the air starts to chill, your body tries to hold in heat by narrowing the blood vessels, says Debra Jaliman, MD, dermatologist and assistant clinical professor of dermatology at Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai Hospital in New York City. As a result, she explains, the outer layers of the skin become dry and dull, leading to pesky problems like flakes and cracks. But the cold doesn’t discriminate, meaning even skincare professionals have to resort to strict winter skincare regimes.

We spoke with six dermatologists and got the inside scoop on how they care for their skin when the weather gets cooler. Sure, what they tell us when we're sitting in the patient chair is one thing, but the advice they actually take themselves, now that’s a whole different story.

Cleanse without drying out the skin

"First, I wash my face with a hydrating cleanser," says Joshua Zeichner, MD, director of cosmetic and clinical research in the department of dermatology at Mount Sinai Hospital in New York City. The key word here: hydrating. "Especially in wintertime, it’s important not to strip the skin of essential oils,” Dr. Zeichner adds. Neutrogena Ultra Gentle Hydrating Cleanser ($8; amazon.com) is his go-to during dry, frigid months, since it gets his skin squeaky-clean without compromising its protective barrier.

Deanne Robinson, MD, FAAD, president of Modern Dermatology of Connecticut, says she relies on ISDIN Micellar Solution ($28; amazon.com) for the same reason. She prefers non-soap cleansers like this one to remove makeup while hydrating at the same time.

Use a sheet mask for moisture

Sheet masks allow rejuvenating ingredients to really soak into the skin, Dr. Jaliman says, which is why she puts one on right when she hops out of the shower. Her all-time favorite is Lierac Paris Comfort Mask ($22; dermstore.com). “This is good one to try because it contains shea butter, mango butter, and apricot oil,” she says, adding that these three ingredients have high concentrations of nourishing vitamins and fatty acids.

Moisturize, moisturize, moisturize

It's no secret your skin needs a moisture boost when humidity drops. Every dermatologist we spoke to stressed the importance of moisturizing as the seasons change, but they all had a slightly different way of doing so.

“I prefer ceramide-based products because this fatty acid is essential to our skin barrier and function,” Dr…

How a Rock Climbing Trip Taught Me How to Trust

– health.com

So there I was—about three-quarters of the way up a 100-foot rock formation in California’s Joshua Tree National Park. I was tired. But more than that, I was pissed off that this one section, which I dubbed “the Crack,” was giving me so much trouble. Below, my crew of strong women was cheering me on. Above me, Savannah Cummins, an adventure photographer and expert climber, was balancing on a rope like a ninja. She was offering me tips while capturing my every move, but with fatigue and frustration setting in, it sounded more like Charlie Brown’s teacher—“whaa-whaa-whaa.”

This particular rock face was nothing like the indoor climbing walls I had practiced on back in New York; it was infinitely harder. You see, in the gym, there were defined routes marked by colors, which represent degrees of difficulty, as well as pronounced nubs you use to grab or step on. But in the outdoors, I was unable to map out a clear path. So each chalky-hand move or toe placement felt like trying to fit a piece into a challenging puzzle—and my guess was often wrong.

Knowing that I needed to make a move, I gripped a section of rock, and it peeled away like a pistachio shell. I fell a bit before feeling my rope tighten. It was then I was reminded of my mortality. I closed my eyes and rested my forehead against the rock. “You can do this,” I said to myself. More important, I told myself to trust my belayer (the person on the ground charged with securing me).

Fundamentally, the art of rock climbing is about two things: overcoming physical obstacles and trusting in people. For me, the first part was no big deal. I’m not saying that using every muscle in my body to grip tiny crevices and sliding my frame along rock surfaces is easy, but I’ve run several marathons and even trekked through the Alps. Translation: I’m comfortable with physical discomfort and have taught myself how to persevere. But trusting others is tough for me. So the fact that the rope I am attached to is literally tied to the waist of another person and that is the only thing keeping me from smashing into this mountain, or worse, freefalling 100 feet? Yup, it’s my worst nightmare.

Knowing that, you may wonder what possessed me to try a sport that consists of putting my life in the hands of another person. Well, “sport climbing” is making its Olympic debut in 2020. For the most part, it’s male-dominated, and the North Face wants to change that, so it invited a group of female editors on a trip to explore the activity. Honestly, it seemed like a good idea while sitting at my cushy desk in New York City. I love athletic challenges and was into the whole female-empowerment angle. I didn’t even think about the trust aspect.

So on that rock—torn between giving up and fighting like hell to finish—I gave myself a moment to regroup…

This 9-Week Squat Challenge Gave Me a Butt I'm Finally Proud Of

– health.com

I’m not your average exerciser. I grew up playing varsity sports (soccer, swimming, more soccer). I played on a nationally ranked rugby team in college. And I now CrossFit six days week. I have shapely arms and a strong core–yet, I hate my tush. (And I hated it even when my parents still called it my "patootie”.)

It’s the butt my relatives used as an excuse to kick me off their laps. “It’s too bony!” they'd say. The butt whose absence became even more apparent when I started strength training, the butt that’s the reason I wear long cardigans whenever I shimmy into a pair of jeans.

The truth is, the appearance of my butt is partially out of my control. “Genetics is a major component of where we store our fat and how we develop muscle, so genetics is a huge determinator of the size and shape of your butt,” physical therapist and certified strength and conditioning specialist Grayson Wickham, founder of Movement Vault, told me when he overheard me complaining of my flat rear.

Still, I thought there must be something I could do to make my bum a little more JLo and a little less JFlat. Besides, in addition to filling out pants, there are a ton of benefits of having stronger, bigger glutes: increased metabolism, improved posture, faster running, and lifting heavier weights during my CrossFit workouts.

So when I found out my CrossFit box was starting a nine-week squat challenge with CrossFit coach Ian Berger, founder of Altrufuel and the Endure Podcast, I was in. Could my peach really be just a couple months away? I decided I would squat (and squat hard) to find out.

The 'Split-Second Decision' That Changed an Abuse Survivor's Life & Helped Her Start to Heal

Marianna Mazzeo, then 14, was keeping a painful secret that was growing more and more difficult to hide.

“I wanted to die,” she says. “But I didn’t think it was normal for a person in middle school to want to die.”

Mazzeo, now 20, says she was sexually abused by her uncle from the ages of 6 to 11 and spent most of her childhood struggling with her emotions.

After a suicide attempt as a teenager, she was put into a residential mental health facility that ultimately changed her life, she tells PEOPLE in this week’s issue.

One of the questions in the admissions paperwork asked: “Have you ever been touched in a way that you shouldn’t have?”

Seeing that, Mazzeo felt ready to open up about what happened to her as a child.

“It was split-second decision,” she says. “I said ‘yes’ because I wanted to be able to talk about it, to be able to finally heal from what was making me so upset all the time.”

• For more on Mazzeo’s journey of survival and healing and how she brought her uncle to justice, subscribe now to PEOPLE or pick up this week’s issue on newsstands now.

In 2014, detectives in Marblehead, Ohio, questioned her uncle, Richard Rose, but he refused to take a lie detector test, thus ending the investigation due to lack of evidence, according to a police report obtained by PEOPLE.

While Mazzeo focused on managing her mental health, she never gave up on someday getting the truth from her tormentor.

“When I found out [the case was closed], I wrote in my journal, ‘He stole five years of my childhood that I’ll never get back,’ ” she says. “‘It’s not over. I’ll get a confession.’ “

Last year, Mazzeo was triggered when she saw a man who resembled Rose. She decided she could no longer live in the shadows and set out to expose the truth.

Eventually, after texting her uncle in an attempt to communicate, they scheduled a video chat on Facebook Messenger, and Mazzeo set up two cell phones: one for the call and another to record their exchange.

As soon as her uncle’s face appeared on her phone after eight years without seeing him, she hit record. He began to apologize and Mazzeo began to cry.

“I need to hear you say it,” she demanded. Finally, he did: “I’m sorry I molested you.”

With that crucial evidence in hand, Mazzeo went to the police.

On April 12, Rose, 57, was arrested in Port Clinton, Ohio, and awaits trial on five counts of rape, to which he has pleaded not guilty. He remains jailed with his trial scheduled for December.

His attorney did not return calls seeking comment.

Mazzeo, meanwhile, is living on her own for the first time, with support from her sensitive 2-year-old Labrador mix, Bane. She recently enrolled in college with hopes of becoming a psychiatric nurse…

We Tried the $600 Personal Massager That Celebs Are Obsessed With

– health.com

You may have seen this funky-looking massage tool making the rounds on social media—celebs like Shakira and top athletes like three-time Olympian Kerri Walsh Jennings have posted glowing reviews of the TheraGun Professional Massager. The idea is to place the ball on sore muscles that need some TLC; pull the trigger and the ball will hammer away at 40-beats-per-second, manipulating and loosening tight spots.

Sounds awesome—but with the steep price tag, is it worth it? We had Health editors try it, and here’s what they said.

To buy: $600; amazon.com or theragun.com

“I take five SoulCycle classes a week, and my calves are chronically tight. I’ve tried everything from intensive stretching to acupuncture, but nothing has totally worked—until I tried this. After every class, I blasted my legs from ankle to upper thigh. Not only did I feel better, but I also found that I was able to perform better in my classes.” —Bethany Heitman, executive editor

“Some Theragun fanatics told me they prefer using it before a workout to warm them up, but I found it most effective after. I used it for about 10 minutes after an intense boot camp. It feels like a good, deep massage, and it left me feeling loosey-goosey—in a really good way!” —Arielle R. Franklin, senior contributing editor

“My husband and I work out six days a week, and by the end, we’re definitely a little tight. So we were both really excited to try this. I liked it, but my husband was even more into it. He lifts weights and found it useful in his recovery, plus he loved that it looks like a power tool. I’d say it’s totally worth the cost if you work out regularly." —Heather Muir Maffei, beauty director

Which Exercise Burns the Most Calories? Here's What Science Says

– health.com

Your time is precious — and limited. So when it comes to working out, it’s not uncommon to wonder: what exercise burns the most calories?

Exercise scientists have rigorously studied the amount of energy people expend during different types of exercise, and they’ve determined which workouts are best for burning calories. The thing to keep in mind: the more muscles you engage and the harder (and longer) you push those muscles, the more energy your body will churn through, says Dr. Tim Church, an exercise researcher and a professor of preventative medicine at Pennington Biomedical Research Center at Louisiana State University. So in order to maximize the number of calories you’ll burn, “you want an exercise that uses both lower and upper body muscle groups and is performed at a high intensity,” Church says.

You might therefore expect something along the lines of CrossFit or Tabata-style interval training to burn the most calories. And you may be right.

A study on one popular CrossFit workout called the “Cindy” — in which a person does a series of pull-ups, push-ups and squats in as many rounds as possible — found that it burned an average of 13 calories per minute. The workout lasts 20 minutes, so exercisers burned an average of 260 calories in total. While perfect apples-to-apples studies aren’t available, some Tabata research has shown that one of these workouts — composed of 4-minute training blocks that mix maximum-intensity bouts of resistance and aerobic training with short periods of rest — burns 14.5 calories per minute, or 280 calories during a 20-minute workout.

These per-minute calorie averages beat out many traditional forms of exercise. “But there’s such a variety within these classes and the people doing them that scores are all over the map,” says John Porcari, author of the Tabata study and a professor of exercise and sports science at the University of Wisconsin, La Crosse. For example, some people in his Tabata study burned up to 360 calories during the 20-minute workout, or 18 calories per minute.

Yet “per-minute” calorie burn isn’t always the best way to assess a workout’s energy demands, Porcari says. The total time spent training and a person’s willingness to stick with a workout are also important factors. “You can crank like the dickens for 30 seconds and burn a lot of calories,” he says. So if you’re extremely short on time, high-intensity interval training (HIIT) is probably your best option. But in the real world, Porcari says, many people won’t be comfortable (or capable of) engaging in regular or extended bouts of high-intensity training.

He says a “more fair” way to assess an exercise’s true energy demands is to ask people to do it at a pace that is comfortable for them. And when it comes to vigorous, calorie-burning exercises that people are comfortable doing for extended periods of time, running usually comes out on top…

Nail Salon Apologizes After Denying Service to Woman Because She Weighs Over 250 Lbs.

A South Carolina nail salon is making amends after they turned away a woman because she weighed over 250 lbs.

Amanda Wolfenbarger went to Nail Spa in Conway, South Carolina for a pedicure, and said a man took her over to a chair and had her soak her feet for ten minutes before returning and asking how much she weighed.

“It was embarrassing,” Wolfenbarger told WMBF News. “You get that knot in your stomach and your heart drops a little bit.”

After she told him her weight, Wolfenbarger said he pointed to a sign that stated, “We are not accepting any person over 250 lb. for pedicure service, sorry!”

“Why even sit me?” she questioned afterwards. “There’s a more tactful way of approaching someone and he could have explained it at the counter.”

PEOPLE has reached out to Nail Spa for comment.

According to WMBF, Tina Bui, the owner of Nail Spa, was immediately apologetic and talked to Wolfenbarger in the parking lot. Bui said that the policy is in place because the chairs have a weight limit, and they want their customers to be able to safely sit in the chair.

“[I’m] sorry that happened today and made my customer [who] came to my nail shop unhappy and hurt her feelings,” Bui said. “I tried to say sorry … that happened to her. But something if I can do, I’m really happy to do.”

Crystal Smith, another Nail Spa customer, offered to remake the signs.

“It was inappropriate how it had been placed on there … it was actually in a rude manner,” she said.

But she said Bui wants to do the right thing.

“Tina feels horrible about the way it was addressed to her, but she has looked into other chairs from different companies for higher weight limits,” Smith said.

Is Your Doctor Gaslighting You? Here's What to Do

Four years ago, Deborah J. Cohan went to her primary-care doctor with excruciating pain throughout her midsection. “I wasn't able to stand up straight. Eating and going to the bathroom were uncomfortable,” Cohan, who lives in South Carolina, tells Health. She had a hunch it was gynecological, but her doctor dismissed the idea. Declaring it to be back pain, she prescribed Cohan muscle relaxants.

They didn’t work. Neither did over-the-counter pain relief, ice, heat, chiropractic care, or stretching.

A few days later, Cohan’s pain was so bad, she went to the ER. But instead of getting help, she only encountered more pushback.

RELATED: 12 Horrifying True Stories of Doctors Behaving Badly

The doctor on duty confidently announced that Cohan had uterine fibroids. When she pointed out that she didn’t have a uterus anymore—it had been removed in that same hospital the year before—“the doctor was adamant I was mistaken,” she remembers.

Not until Cohan’s ob-gyn came onto the scene was the right diagnosis finally made. Cohan’s ovaries had twisted and fallen from their normal position—a condition called ovarian torsion. It’s considered a medical emergency and, if left untreated, can be fatal.

After immediate surgery to remove both her ovaries, Cohan recuperated quickly. Still, “this experience confirmed what I’ve long believed,” she says. “Women need to embrace, trust, own, and protect their own bodies.”

In other words, doctors won’t always do that for you. In fact, your doctor might even try to gaslight you.

"Gaslighting" happens when one person tries to convince another to second-guess their instincts and doubt their perception that something is real. Medical gaslighting happens when health-care professionals downplay or blow off symptoms you know you're feeling and instead try to convince you they're caused by something else—or even that you're imagining them.

A disconnect—or disrespect?

As the #MeToo movement continues to bring allegations of sexual harassment and sexual assault into the daylight, it’s illuminating another unsettling gender-based offense: how women’s health issues often go ignored, undertreated, or misdiagnosed by doctors.

“It’s a true phenomenon,” G. Thomas Ruiz, MD, lead ob-gyn at MemorialCare Orange Coast Medical Center in Fountain Valley, California, tells Health. “Gender bias is a harsh opinion as to why [it happens], but there’s some pretty good research to support that.”

RELATED: 4 Signs You Should See Another Doctor for a Second Opinion

Granted, some gynecological disorders, like endometriosis, are notoriously tricky to diagnose. But it’s not just women’s health issues that doctors tend to downplay.

For instance, women with heart disease are prescribed less medicine and offered surgery less often than men…

Please Stop Working Out in Your Makeup—Here's Why

– health.com

Scrolling through our social media feeds, it's not surprising to see our female BFFs and fitness influencers posting workout selfies while—yep—wearing makeup. We understand wanting to hide a daunting pimple or two, but going for a run or hitting the gym in a full face of makeup doesn't seem like the greatest idea for your skin. After all, can a layer of product really allow your skin to breathe as you sweat through your favorite class?

But,what if you work out on your lunch break (we applaud you) and don't want to remove your makeup just to reapply it an hour later? Is it that bad? Well, our experts really, really want you to think twice. Here, dermatologists explain why exercising in makeup is a huge no-no.

Exercising causes blood vessels to expand, increases blood flow to the skin, and opens pores. Sweat and bacteria get trapped under layers of makeup, preventing the skin from dissipating heat properly and leaving it prone to pore-occlusion (or becoming majorly clogged!), explains New York-based dermatologist Rachel Nazarian, MD. "The trapping of bacteria and sweat in the (now dilated) pores can enlarge pores over time and cause blackheads, while the trapping of heat can flare temperature-sensitive conditions such as rosacea, ultimately causing redness and uneven skin tone," Dr. Nazarian adds. Bottom line: makeup covers up our sweat glands, which can clog pores and lead to acne or irritation, which is just so not worth it.

Although the goal is not to exercise in makeup, sometimes we are crunched for time or simply forget to take off our foundation before spin class (hey, it happens). For situations like this, it's important to keep in mind that not all makeup is created equal. Dr. Nazarian tells us that if you have no choice or time to remove and reapply makeup when squeezing in a quick lunch workout, use makeup labeled as "non-comedogenic" (won't clog pores) and stick to lighter powders as opposed to heavy oil-based liquid makeups. And if you do wear makeup during a run or class, be sure to wash your face immediately after with a gentle cleanser like unscented Dove Sensitive Skin Body Wash ($6; amazon.com) or Cetaphil Gentle Skin Cleanser ($14 for 3; amazon.com), Dr. Nazarian suggests. We also like these Cetaphil Gentle Skin Cleansing Clothes ($17 for 3 packs of 25; amazon.com), which are perfect for stashing in your gym bag to make the process even easier.

If you do have to wear makeup to the gym, keep your movements light so you won't be dripping in sweat. But if you're religiously wearing makeup during your workouts to conceal pesky breakouts or uneven skin, try switching over to a tinted moisturizer or a CC or BB cream, since they are usually very light, says Debra Jaliman, MD, a New York City-based dermatologist…

Concealer: the life-changing beauty product that can bring you from Walking Dead status to walk-the-runway-ready in a couple of swipes. And as any woman who has ever tried to cover her dark circles or acne marks knows, concealer comes in so many formulas that it can be close to impossible to choose the right one. We went to the pros to find out what they consider to be the best of the best.

For full coverage: Cle de Peau Concealer ($70; nordstrom.com)

"This has full-coverage capability without a typical full-coverage heavy feel, and it doesn't settle into fine lines or wrinkles—a telltale sign that you've loaded up on concealer or foundation. The color range is vast and can complement many skin tones. A little goes a very long way, so it's worth the splurge!" —Lauren Gott, Los Angeles- and New York-based celebrity makeup artist; A-list clientele include Kiernan Shipka and Jewel

For sweat-proof coverage: Amazing Cosmetics Concealer ($42; dermstore.com)

"In my opinion, it's the best concealer out there and it has something for everyone. It comes in 20 shades and three families of undertones, making matching someone's skin tone perfectly a possibility. It's great for all-day wear and even held up against 14-hour dance days on the set of Smash!" —Rebecca Perkins, Co-founder and head makeup artist at Rouge New York

For a subtle sheen: Chanel Correcteur Perfection Long Lasting Concealer ($42; barneys.com)

"There are a ton of concealers I love, but this is my current go-to. If I'm just spot correcting, I match the concealer to complexion, or if I'm highlighting under the eyes, I choose a shade lighter than the skin tone I'm working with. It's an easy way to illuminate features without sparkle." —Joni Powell, Los Angeles based makeup artist who has worked on the sets of The O.C. and Hart of Dixie

For buildable coverage: TARTE Maracuja Creaseless Concealer ($25; sephora.com)

"It addresses so many of my clients' concerns: It provides full coverage without creasing, while also hydrating the eye area. On the rest of the face, I start with just a small amount of formula and build it up for more coverage. And an added bonus of TARTE's products is that they're natural and generally safe to use on all skin types." —Neil Scibelli, a New York-based celebrity makeup artist who has glammed up Molly Sims and Elle MacPherson

For a flawless finish: M.A.C. Studio Finish Concealer ($19; nordstrom.com)

"This is my all-time favorite. I like it because of its versatility and consistency—it never fails. It's a true medium- to full-coverage concealer, but can be used as thinly as any lightweight formula out there. Its easy to work with and very easy to blend smoothly. I always tell my closest friends, you don't really need foundation, you just need a really great concealer!" —New York City makeup artist Robert Greene, who has worked with Sienna Miller and Zoey Saldana

11 Fall Hair Color Trends That Are Going to Be Huge This Year

– health.com

With summer almost over, it's time to say so long to sun-kissed tones and migrate toward the darker, crisper shades of autumn. But fall hair is so much more than switching from blonde to brunette. With Halloween and Thanksgiving on the horizon, it's the perfect time to revel in burnt orange, mulled wine, and rosy pink, or to combine those seasonal colors in completely original ways.

Below, we’ve gathered 11 of this year’s biggest fall hair color trends, from subtle ‘dos to statement makers, to help you love your locks this season.

Cold brew hair

Come fall, you’ll see cold brew in people’s cups and on their heads like this coffee-inspired style from @hairby_kimberlyy. But be careful; cold brew hair isn’t a universal term. To make sure your stylist gets the look right, ask for a dark brunette with warm highlights. The red-gold hues will flow through your locks like creamer in your cup.

Flannel hair

With cool weather just around the corner, you’ll soon be swapping shorts and tank tops for layers that keep you cozy. Flannels are a fall fashion staple, and their traditional red, copper, and cider colors will give your hair a foliage flair. Get creative with this style like @anthonycuts by adding auburn, cinnamon, or something completely out of the box.

Blonde with red undertones

Just because the sun isn’t shining as brightly doesn’t mean your blonde locks can’t. Add subtle red undertones to golden hair to give it a gorgeous warm glow, like this look from @soulsnap. To keep it natural, stick with a deep cinnamon red as opposed to a brighter copper or crimson.

Warmed-up brunette

For some of us, brunette can be, well, boring. But adding a variety of warm highlights, like here from @sarahzstylz, gives it radiance and dimension. Stay away from blonde and choose subtle reds, oranges, and pinks to get in the spirit of the season. You can even incorporate lowlights to add contrast that’ll make the colors pop.

Rose gold

It’s the hue of your favorite jewelry, your go-to shoes, and maybe even your iPhone—so why not give yourself a crown of rose gold hair? Here, @guy_tang proves dark roots aren’t an issue when it comes to this style, so it's a fuss-free way for natural brunettes to lighten up. And don’t worry about getting bored; expect the color to change over time, from warm and rosy to an orange-y pink.

Maroon glaze

Do you cringe at the thought of bleaching your brunette mane? You’re not alone, which is why many people turn to an all-over glaze to warm up their locks. A red tint like this from @sarahnicole.hair will change your look without feeling too drastic, and glaze treatments can actually add strength and shine to your hair.

Orange ombre

Ombre has been in style for quite some time now, but most women keep it simple and go for a brunette-to-blonde look…

Meghan Markle’s Go-To Lash Serum Is On Sale Right Now + MORE

Meghan Markle’s Go-To Lash Serum Is On Sale Right Now

– health.com

Meghan Markle may officially be a Royal now, but she still keeps her beauty routine relatively low-key. She loves throwing her hair up in messy buns, isn't above doing her own makeup, and sticks to using eyelash serum for longer lashes instead of going the high-maintenance extensions route.

The Duchess also isn't opposed to sharing what products she actually uses, too. In an interview with Allure in 2014, Markle revealed that she wears by Revitalash's Advanced Eyelash Conditioner to enhance her lashes. "I also use Revitalash on my eyelashes, she told the publication. "And I swear they are as long as could ever be."

RELATED: Everything You Need to Know About Using Lash Growth Serums

As one of the OG lash serums on the market, Revitalash has a massive cult-following, which includes celebs like Markle. It's formulated with peptides, biotin, and botanicals that condition and strengthen lashes so they're stronger, less brittle, and don't break. In turn, lashes will look longer and fuller within 6 weeks of using it.

RevitaLash Advanced Eyelash Conditioner

Even though applying a lash serum is a lot quicker than using falsies and doesn't require the upkeep of extensions, many formulas hover around the $100 mark. They're not exactly cheap, so trial-and-error isn't wallet-friendly. Odds are that you might not marry into a Royal family, but you can get Duchess-approved lashes on a budget.

Revitalash usually costs $98, but until September 26, you can score a three month supply for 15 percent off by using the code "STYLE15" at checkout. Your lashes will thank you in a few weeks when you start to see its effects kick in.

This NFL Player Was Diagnosed With Guillain-Barré Syndrome. Here's What That Means

Yesterday on Twitter, Dallas Cowboys offensive lineman Travis Frederick revealed that he’s been diagnosed with the autoimmune disease Guillain-Barré syndrome. The 27-year-old NFL player shared a statement detailing a weeks-long “examination and discovery process.” In the previous 48 hours, he wrote, he had undergone two treatments for the condition.

Frederick hasn’t missed a football game in the past five years, according to ESPN, but now he's facing some time off the gridiron. “My doctors have told me that it is not possible to determine a time table for a return to the field right now, but I am hopeful that I will be able to play as soon as possible,” he tweeted.

So what exactly is Guillain-Barré syndrome?

Guillain-Barré syndrome or GBS, occurs when the body mistakenly attacks its own nerves, specifically in the peripheral nervous system, which connects the brain and spinal cord to the rest of the body. This can result in a wide range of nerve-related symptoms, including tingling, pricking, or pins and needles sensations; muscle weakness; difficulty walking, speaking, chewing, or swallowing; pain; and, in severe cases, paralysis, which can become life-threatening if breathing is affected.

The worst GBS symptoms are likely to emerge within the first few days and up to four weeks after a person notices that something is wrong, according to the National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke (NINDS). After that, symptoms usually stabilize, but recovery can progress slowly over a few weeks or even a few years.

Earlier this month, Frederick sought medical care for “stingers” in his neck. “I have been told that the illness was detected at a fairly early stage,” he tweeted. In general, most people don’t seek out medical attention until they’re already experiencing weakness on both sides of their body, according to the NINDS.

As with many autoimmune diseases, experts don’t fully understand what causes GBS, but it’s thought to be triggered by an infection or surgery. Campylobacter infections (a common cause of food poisoning) are thought to be the most common trigger of Guillain-Barré, according to the Mayo Clinic. The flu, Epstein-Barr virus (best known as the cause of mono), and even Zika have also been linked to GBS.

While many autoimmune conditions are more likely to strike women, men are more likely to have GBS, states the Mayo Clinic, although it can affect anyone.

RELATED: 9 Autoimmune Diseases Every Woman Needs to Know About

How is Guillain-Barré syndrome treated?

Frederick didn’t disclose details of the treatments he had this week, but Guillain-Barré syndrome is typically treated in two different ways to disrupt nerve damage.

One is plasma exchange. This procedure involves drawing blood, separating out the plasma (the liquid part), then returning the remaining blood cells to the patient…

In the market for a new fitness tracker? You're shopping at the perfect time: Fitbit just announced an update to their bestselling Charge 2 device. The Charge 3, which the company is calling their "most advanced tracker ever," is available for presale now and officially ships in a few weeks.

Preorder now: $150 and up; fitbit.com

The Fitbit Charge 3 has many of the features you've come to love about the previous Charge model: insights on heart rate, distance traveled, and calorie burn; smartphone notifications; and a sleek, durable interface. The new model is also water-resistant up to 50 meters and boasts a significantly larger touchscreen (it's about 40% bigger, but 20% lighter, thanks to aerospace grade aluminum). If you have an older Fitbit, you might also notice that the Charge 3 feels more like a smartphone; you can easily swipe between apps, and the backlit display automatically adjusts to different types of light.

But our senior fitness editor Rozalynn S. Frazier is probably most excited about the better-than-ever battery life. "A single charge should last you seven days, which is a game changer—especially for someone like me, who always seems to forget to plug in my device at night," she says.

Also cool, according to Roz? The ability to easily swap out bands. The Charge 3 offers three different types: silicone sports bands in four cheery hues for $30, woven bands in two colors for $35, and midnight blue or plum leather bands for $50. The different textures make taking your fitness tracker from a workout class to dinner and drinks totally seamless.
